Mamenshka

Synopsis
A middle aged man tells the story of how his life as a young man at the top of his career is ruined when a nervous breakdown manifests as sexual obsession. After being arrested under suspicion for crimes he has not committed he finds himself locked up, straight jacketed and threatened with deportation to the Ukraine, a country he doesn’t know. In the end his empire falls as rumours fly and the press and his former colleagues turn their backs on him, and he tells the story of how it all happened, and of his obsession with an exotic woman whom he has never met.

Mamenshka
The Review - THEATRE by JAMIE WELHAM (Camden New Journal) 7 February 2008
"Mamenshka is a much darker affair. It follows the story of Anthony James (Robert Rowe) – a one-time fat cat who has fallen on hard times. Clad in cardboard, and pleading with the audience to buy a Big Issue, a destitute Anthony recounts his downfall at the hands of a mythical prostitute called Mamenshka (Anita Clements). A character assassination and sideways look at the sex industry, Mamenshka is really only a fantasy that exists in Anthony’s head."
